During the day the energy comes from the panels and during bad weather conditions or at night the electricity is obtained from the grid. In this system, the panels and the grid are connected to each other, so electricity is provided 24 hours a day. And it also saves a lot on bills because during the day the electricity comes from sunlight.

How Does the On Grid Solar System Work In Pakistan?

In an on-grid solar system, the solar panels are connected to the national grid. This system does not include a battery. This system consists of solar panels and inverters that are connected to the grid. When sunlight hits the solar plate, it is converted into electricity due to photovoltaic technology. Weather has a significant impact on power generation. If the weather is bad during rainy seasons , panels are not able to produce electricity.

An inverter is attached to it which converts direct current into alternating current. This electricity can be used to power homes and businesses.

Along with this, the system is connected to the grid. Whenever the weather conditions are bad or at night, the automatic home system connects to the automatic grid and provides electricity.

Components of On-Grid Solar Systems

 On grid solar system also called grid-tied grid system. It is a very cost effective system i.e. not too expensive as it does not include expensive batteries. Apart from this, its use also saves a lot in the electricity bill. Main components are  given as,

1. Grid

    Grid means a national power supply unit. We can consider it a part of the On-grid solar panel system. Electricity can be obtained from the grid at night or during bad weather conditions.

    2. Solar Panels

     Panels are connected to the grid, Solar panels capture sunlight and convert it into electricity through photovoltaic (PV) technology.

    3. Inverters

    Inverters are also attached to this, when sunlight falls on the panels, they convert the direct current (DC) into alternating current (AC) and make it usable. 

    4. Net Metering 

    It also has a net metering system i.e. the power supply from the grid and from the panel is also checked.

    Advantages Of Grid Solar Systems

     Following are the advantages of on-grid solar system

    • This saves a lot in electricity bills. That is, most of the electricity is obtained through the sun, so there is a considerable saving in the bills.
    •  Through this, carbon emissions are reduced, i.e. greenhouse gasses are not released at all. So they are environment friendly.
    • By using it, there is freedom to use energy, meaning there is no tension of high bills. Because during the day, the entire energy is obtained from sunlight.
    •  Its use also increases the value of the property as it provides easy and cheap electricity to the house

    Disadvantages Of Grid-Tie Solar System

    On-grid solar systems have advantages as well as disadvantages. Which are as follows:

    •  It depends on the grid. If the weather conditions are bad, then there is dependence on the grid and if there is a power outage, then many problems have to be faced.  
    • An on grid solar system has no backup plan. That is, if there is ever a problem in the wiring and the sunlight is also dim, then electricity cannot be obtained from the grid, so it is a disadvantage.
    •  Sometimes the bills are even higher because if the weather conditions continue to be bad, then the solar panel will not be able to generate electricity. Therefore, one has to depend entirely on the grid and hence the bills are also high.

    On-Grid Solar System Price In Pakistan

    The price of an on-grid solar system varies according to the capacity, type and quality. That is, a 5kw solar panel system will be cheaper than a 7kw solar panel system but more expensive than a 2kw solar panel system. That is, more expensive solar panel systems have more capacity and their inverters are also of better quality. Most of the price depends on the quality of the panels. If good quality panels are used, the overall cost may be higher. An average on-grid solar panel costs between RS 800,000 to 900,000. A 3kw solar panel price is RS 640,000.

    An on-grid solar panel system is a great option to save on electricity bills. They are also relatively cheap to install as they do not require a battery. So they can be installed easily. Apart from this, they are also environment friendly. Solar panels generate the cheapest electricity and their use can save thousands of rupees per month. A battery can also be connected with an on-grid solar system, but then it will be called a hybrid system.
