Affordable Solar System in Sindh at Just Rs 7000 for Sindh Residents
The Sindh government, in collaboration with the World Bank, has launched an innovative project to provide affordable solar power systems to households across the province. At a cost of just Rs7,000, these solar systems are designed to power a fan and three LED bulbs, ensuring basic lighting and ventilation for homes.

The initiative aims to distribute 200,000 solar systems, with 50,000 allocated to Karachi alone. Each district will receive 6,656 systems. This project, funded with $32 million from the World Bank, is set to begin in October, once all the necessary components, including solar panels, charge controllers, and batteries, are procured.
This effort reflects Sindh’s commitment to sustainable energy. Currently, the province generates 400MW from solar energy, and this project is expected to boost that capacity significantly. The government’s focus is on making energy accessible and affordable, particularly for rural and underserved areas.
In comparison, the Punjab government is also providing free solar systems to 50,000 households. These initiatives collectively mark a significant step towards reducing reliance on traditional power grids and promoting renewable energy across Pakistan.
